Suggested subject: "Something in the Room, Using Contonuous Blind Contour" Unlike my friend, Madeleine Wood, who embraces blind contour,
to this day, after drawing for sixty years and teaching drawing for maybe thirty, I don't get the purpose of blind contour drawing. Wikipedia says it's to improve eye-hand coordination and various
other ailments (and I'm sure there's arguments on both sides), but I for one am not a fan. However, I do recognize its value as a process, and also a jumping-off-point. So that's what I did: jumped
off into the semi-abstract realm. I did obey the rules and you can still see the original black line "drawing" of two champagne flutes. After that, rules be damned, and I had lots more fun with colour
and mark-making! Mixed media on Terraskin paper; approximately 7" x 10". |
